I was born and raised in Pottsville
Pennsylvania, gateway to the coal regions. I remember drawing as soon
as I could hold a pencil. During my student years I won several awards
at local and regional art exhibits. I graduated from the Philadelphia
College of Art in 1968 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting. My
medium of choice at that time was acrylics. I also did ceramic portrait
busts on commission. I’ve taught art to many age groups from “tiny tots”
to senior citizens. While working in a nursing home, I developed techniques
to help stroke patients work in ceramics. My family and I migrated to
the West Coast in the ‘70s eventually settling in the Bay Area. I “discovered”
watercolor several years ago and have been joyfully using it ever since.
In August of 2003 I had my first watercolor show. In the spring of 2004,
I exhibited in two national shows: the Alabama Watercolor Society Show
and the fine arts show in Midlands, Texas. In June of 2004, two of my
paintings will be exhibited in the Santa Cruz Art League’s Statewide
Fine Arts Exhibit. I’ve also won several local awards. My style has
evolved to incorporate the intensity of acrylics with the familiar washes
of watercolor. Our beautiful local landscapes, our abundance of flowers,
and our diversity of cultures and people inspire me. My work is a reflection
of the peace I find in my surroundings and within.
