Joy S. Kuo Joy Kuo, was born
in the GuanXi Province of China and grew up in Taipei, Taiwan. She has
always had a special interest in calligraphy, painting, and the visual
arts. While in Taiwan, she explored photography and studied Chinese
brush painting with artist Kuo Yen-Chiao. After moving to the United
States, she continued studying art by taking classes in both sketching
and watercolors at local colleges. Most recently she has studied privately
with Marjorie Wu and He Yuan-Ming. Ms. Wu apprenticed with a student
of artist Chao Shao-an, who modernized the Lingnan style of painting.
HeYuan-Ming is a freestyle artist who uses ink splashing and finger
painting techniques, and is renowned for using natural landscapes as
his subject.
Ms. Kuo is a member of the Chinese
Arts Association , the Oriental Art Association, and the Fine Art League
of Cupertino. She was the second place winner of the 1998 Fine Art League
of Cupertino competition. She frequently donates her paintings for fund
raising events and held an exhibition benefiting the 13th Annual Chinese
American Athletic Tournament at the Cupertino Quinlan Center. She participated
in the Annual Member Exhibition with the Chinese Arts Association in
both 1995 and 1996. In 1997 her paintings were included at the Annual
Oriental Art Association exhibition in San Francisco and in an exhibit
featuring local artists and photographers at the Bay Model in Sausalito.
Ms. Kuo frequently participates in joint exhibitions with other local
artists. In January of 1998 she exhibited with He Yuan-Ming and in April
1998 with Marjorie Wu. She is the owner of the Joy's studio, and teaching
Chinese Brush printing.
