Howard Steven Pon

I was born in the south part of China called Canton, not far from Hong Kong. I guess that's where most of the delicious food like Chow Mein, Won Ton Soup and Chop Suey originate from. When I was only five years old my family moved to Hong Kong.

One day I picked up a pencil and started drawing. My Mother saw my drawing and told me I was very artistic. Well, it could be that I happened to be an Aries, and Aries tend to have more of an artistic inclination. From that day onward, I have continued drawing. I have always admired good painting by famous Artists like Norman Rockwell and Thomas Kinkade.

I have taken classes in Commercial Art, Life Drawing and Acrylic Painting at De Anza College. I had a very good teacher who showed me many different styles and techniques, using different media and different methods. It was a great learning experience for me to explore the world of painting. I started with my first painting and I really enjoyed it, which led to more painting. The more I paint, the more intensified my painting becomes. I have used mostly watercolor and some mixture with Acrylic. I like watercolor because it gives a sort of flowing effect such as Water and the Sky. I would like to try working with oil and canvas later on. I enjoyed the positive and negative feedback from people who see my paintings and give me their enthusiastic opinions. It helps me to absorb and create ideas and apply them to my work.
